Pontcysyllte Aquaduct


What is it? 

Pontcysyllte Aquaduct is a Grade I listed structure that carries the Llangollen Canal across the River Dee

Station Rd, Trevor, Llangollen, LL20 7TY

The aquaduct is accessible by foot, bike, or boat. 

Facts - 

▪ The aqueduct was designed by civil engineers Thomas Telford and William Jessop 

▪ The construction took around ten years from design to finish and cost around £47,000. (equivalent to roughly £4,060,000 in 2021) 

▪ The Pontcysyllte aqueduct officially opened to traffic on 26 November 1805 

▪ The bridge is 336 yd (307 m) long, 12 ft (3.7 m) wide and 5 ft 3 in (1.60 m) deep 

▪ Pontcysyllte Aquaduct was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009
